Managed by Carousel Productions of the Philippines, Miss Earth focuses on empowering women through fashion, leadership, travel and service opportunities. Delegates advocate for environmental awareness and protection of the Earth while showcasing various tourist destinations. Miss Earth is known as one of the most relevant pageants and the second largest, drawing nearly 100 national representatives each year to compete for the title.
One of the unique aspects of the Miss Earth organization is recognition of not just one queen, but four. Miss Earth crowns third, second and first runner ups as Fire, Water and Air respectively. Each receives a cash prize and international travel opportunities.
As 2015 Miss Earth, Angelia Ong serves as a global ambassador to organizations including the United Nations Environment Programme. Since her crowning this past December in Vienna, Austria, Ong has traveled to Reunion Island and Vietnam and will soon visit Colombia, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Mauritius. Ong has been involved in numerous environmental efforts including campaigns with Earth Hour, the Ecowaste Coalition, Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission, the Armed Forces of the Philippines. She was trained by USA Vice President Al Gore to become a Climate Reality Leader.
Miss Earth-Fire Thiessa Sickert Ferreira Veloso is a Brazilian model. In 2012, Sickert was Miss Minas Gerais and placed in the Top 5 at Miss Brasil, the preliminary to Miss Universe. Sickert attended Barnstable High School in Hyannis, Massachusetts, and her first pageant was Miss Brazil USA at the age of 16. She speaks fluent English and Portuguese. Sickert studies architecture at the University of Uberaba.
Miss Earth-Water Brittany Ann Payne is the United States representative who will also crown her successor, Miss Earth United States, in this summer’s national pageant festivities. In Vienna, she was awarded first place Eco-Beauty Video, featuring her efforts to establish self-sustaining gardens in her home state of California. This spring, she collaborated with the Green Education Foundation to read books to school children, sharing ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.
50 American delegates will participate in pageant activities beginning July 29, judged by former winners of Miss USA, Miss America and Miss Earth. Finale emcees are Founder of the Pageant Planet Steven Roddy and Univision host Zoe Torres, with entertainment by 2013 Miss United States Candiace Dillard. State delegates were selected based on leadership skills, photographs, interview, and pageant or modeling experience. They represent their state or region throughout the year, appearing in the community as well as fashion and media events.
After the crowning on August 1, the winner of Miss Earth United States will spend the next two months touring the USA including visits to Houston, New York City, Las Vegas, and Chicago. This fall, she will represent the nation at the 16th annual Miss Earth competition, with the final coronation televised globally to millions of viewers.
US Earth Productions, Inc offers the supporting divisions of Elite Miss age 26-32, Teen Miss age 14-18 and Junior Miss age 11-14. The winners of these titles serve as an extension of the Miss Earth mission while also receiving prizes.
